Fantastic 4
In my opinion a great artist needs to have 4 qualities for me to be a fan of their music. I saw Jus Hustle perform at a show in Atlanta in 2008 and I've been a fan ever since. The Fantastic 4 qualities a artist should have are:
Lyrical Content
Being a big fan of hip hop I focus on artists that add to the art form. It's easy to copy what's hot at the moment and not be a individual. Creative lyrics are very important when it comes to rap. It should make the person listening think. Lyrics should cause a emotion whether it's joy or sadness.
Delivery
Another thing that makes a great artist is delivery. You can say the same thing several ways and get a different reaction. A good voice is important so you will be able to listen to a whole song without getting annoyed.
Subject Matter
A great artist needs to be able to touch his listeners so they can relate to what they are saying. If nobody understands what you are talking about they will not listen.
Melody
The beat should be catchy and memorable. A lot of times I have songs stuck in my head just from the music. When they perform live you should feel electrified on the inside.

I grew up listening to RUN/DMC, Public Enemy, and a host of others, including Cypress Hill, Wu-Tang and many more. I must say that I favor the Hip-Hop and Rap of the old days and occasionally will retreat back to those sounds reminiscent of my youth. This is a nice tribute. Thanks for sharing.
